Kathy Willcuts Kathy Willcuts shared a post: Davidica Little Spotted Horse This is an excellent article. I too hope everyone takes the time to read this. Whenever I come home to South Dakota, I too see many churches, volunteers of every sort headed to our Lakota, Dakota and Nakota. Sovereign lands. In this time of MMIW and people, Molestation of children by Priests, man camps from oil drilling.. it is vital that we build up infrastructure, a security checkpoint of whom is coming and going onto reservations. Checking license plates and drivers licenses, having people state their business on the reservation. At many pow wows you will see booklets handed out to visitors on proper protocol, it would be a good idea to have booklets given out on proper protocol when visiting indigenous lands and people. It is common for a non indigenous person to walk up to you and start grabbing your beadwork, eagle feathers, braids, etc. Wanting to take pictures with you as if you are a novelty of some sort. I've had a women chase me down the road when I was a child yelling, " Jesus loves you, Jesus loves you". Respect our sovereignty in our spiritual practices, culture and indigenous lands. Remember that you are a visitor and these are places where families live. I too hope everyone takes the time to read this.
